When terminating fiber optic cables to expand a network, there is a risk of light loss that can reduce network speed. With mechanical splicing, the loss of light is higher because the fibers are simply aligned and not physically joined. Fiber optic fusion terminations minimize loss and reflectance when terminating fiber optic cables.
